This was a lie -- it intermittently does start slow now, but after playing
for a while, it seems to go back to normal.
I finally have a recording of the "win32 slow sound" problem @

My main machine is win98 SE, a k6-2 350mhz with 192 mg of memory and
DirectX 8 installed. There's also a Turtle Beach Montego II sound card and
a Geforce 2 Ultra in here. How fast, and how much memory does your win9x
machine have?
If anyone else on the list has a Windows machine around with a soundcard,
please give these builds a try and let me know. I only have 2 win98
machines here that I test on regularly.
