can you describe "awful"? The lh.curv.pial is the smoothed mean curvature
of the pial surface, whereas the lh.curv is that of the white surface.
We've had some problems locally where the lh.curv doesn't look right -
pretty much all "gyral" values, that we haven't been able to track down. If
this is what you're finding and you can replicate it, let us know.
