libstdc++ is the standard C++ library. if your Linux has libstdc+ +.so.5, then the rh9 build of freesurfer should be used. the centos builds of freesurfer use libstdc++.so.6. or, libstd++.so.6 can be downloaded from the web and installed (google 'libstdc++ rpm').
