Dear FreeSurfer Team,

I’m currently working on a project involving cortical morphology and am
particularly interested in calculating Intrinsic Cortical Curvature (ICC)
using FreeSurfer.

I came across a recent publication (
https://secure-web.cisco.com/1oL8IZPRfQ5o5UDqVHfF8rU4SLPTHeXEdS4OHOftgKkxaXnXs_JcjgvX9Pe6OjBAkg-u6fxy2Cx-D41wHlEOMEUS_Tk4d7v7Qx3Likv_shYeRtBnydcyfIwu-HBDJKzLVej16EUEX-HNd8WGxTf7Ghvp8It6AivG6yuekw2Fms7MQqM2usIj69bSUOCgHXEJVNndJssFPN8-cnhlMpo8F3l1h9DmbUW45d2fUw_JIGOzVK4lBhAakU7epXVGW1WTQ80Aykb2L7XDlPgosOWOufDrB0xiUu0Tc0OmbMxmp5guJBLGRXwomIYU_9p_795vNmXJLXjWb0vLGetc7x5nWPw/https%3A%2F%2Fpubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2F38761434%2F)
 that utilized ICC in their
statistical analysis. I’d like to clarify a couple of points regarding how
ICC is derived within the FreeSurfer framework:

1. Is Gaussian curvature as computed by FreeSurfer considered equivalent to
ICC?

2. If not, are there additional steps or specific tools required to compute
ICC beyond the standard curvature outputs (e.g., via mris_curvature or
mris_curvature_stats)?

Any guidance or documentation you could share would be greatly appreciated.
I’m aiming to ensure methodological consistency with published work and
would be grateful for your insights.

Thank you for your time and support.

With regards,
Vittal
