Hello,

I was requested to post a sneak preview of what I've been
doing towards Wideband Codec2:

http://0cpm.org/codec2/wideband/

In pointwise summery:

 * Wideband Codec2 would sample at 12.8 kHz
 * This utilises the FFT at 512 samples instead of 320
 * This enables 10 harmonics on a 600 Hz voice
 * The wire format is exactly the same as with 8 kHz
 * Wideband could add more harmonics to high-pitch voices
 * Sample rate is a local choice, remote can be anything
 * Connection quality is determined by the lowest sample rate
 * Code appears to be working, go ahead and play with it

The site also contains a preliminary experiment, where I passed
an opera voice through Codec2 and ended up with a toad :)
Codec2 was not designed for singing at 1 kHz, and I am rather
curious if speaking voices ever reach over the dimensioned
600 Hz. The closer they get, the more they would benefit
from having a higher sample rate.

I hope this is interesting and/or useful.

Cheers,
