I am far from the expert, but I *can* offer a usage perspective...

While it is possible to have a codec2 voice channel link between a VHF HT and
an SSB HF radio, they are *extremely* different usage types and it's highly
unlikely.

What is far more likely is VHF HTs using codec2 would be talking to, or
cross-linked with other VHF/UHF radios.

Think SSB on 2meters, for example. It's *extremely rare* to see SSB on 2m, but
it is done and mostly be the weak signal folks. I don't know of a single
mass-market HT that does SSB on 2m.

My suggestion: use whatever the *most effective and applicable* method for
VHF/UHF as applied to FM. FDMDV is for a whole seperate class of usage.

OK. Currently I compare our FDMDV to FM, D-STAR, and DMR/TRBO in marketing
literature, but that's not really valid if we plan to use some other modulation
on VHF.

So, potentially 1 GMSK carrier?
