The documentation I'm working on (it stalled a bit lately, as I've had some busy days of work, and a fair few other things stealing my time away) works with the same GSMK modem as D-star (using ON1ARF's modem implementation as a reference). But with different sync markers and frame layout. A lot of the error correction/bit scrambling ideas are being lifted straight from D-star specs (again with adjustments to suit the 2500 codec bit rate).Hm. Why 2500 rather than one of the lower rates? And is the 1:1 FEC-to-data ratio of D-STAR really necessary?
If we don't offer a /significant/ improvement over D-STAR, it's not going to get acceptance. What would those improvements be? They would need to to be something like "half the bandwidth and double the effective power", rather than more subtle changes. Just the fact that it's free and open doesn't matter to users.
