Another question on the "2400 vs 4800 baud" issue.

Somebody dropped me a note offlist about something to be put on the 
"wishlist":
"... the ability to lock onto a signal that is off-tune by up to 1 kHz 
and once locked be able to handle a drift of 10 Hz per seconds."

Just wondering.

Conventional wisdom says that you cannot relay D-STAR signals over a 
traditional FM relais. Would a digital protocol at 2400 baud any better 
of in this? And, if yes, would this -if you ignore the issue of 
doppler-shift for the time being- this mean that would also work over a 
satellite FM relais?


Anybody any idea about this?


Or would it be much more simple to use the HF/COFDM modem for this?
