One of these should probably go away and my vote is to leave the one in the root.The version file should only be a release number. It is useful to put the output of "svn info" into a generated C source file. It should be something like this:
const char INFO_/program-or-library-name/[] = "
output of "svn info" goes here
";
This can be referenced from about boxes and such. So, if you reference
INFO_libcodec2, you get the SVN information for that source directory.
