Hm. Is it just the choice of installed paths, the package dependencies that they name, or is it something else?
One of these should probably go away and my vote is to leave the one in the root.
The version file should only be a release number. It is useful to put the output of "svn info" into a generated C source file. It should be something like this:

const char INFO_/program-or-library-name/[] = "
    output of "svn info" goes here
";

This can be referenced from about boxes and such. So, if you reference INFO_libcodec2, you get the SVN information for that source directory.
