I think this is not very well suited.

If I understand it correctly, it is based on the DDS (Direct digital
synthesizer) technique to generate a carrier of a very specific
frequency from a microcontroller.
There is an interesting article and board on elector managazine on DDS
and how to use an ATtiny as frequency-generator using this technique:

To actually do something usefull with it, you can -say- generate this
carrier or not (CW) or slightly vary the frequency or phase of the
carrier based on some protocol (RTTY, PSK, WSPR, .. even FM).
FreeDV would be quite difficult as this requires multiple carriers to be
modulated at the same time.

Also, add the process of codec2 encoding which is quite CPU demanding on
itself.
Note there is no audio-input on the radio.

I have not found any information on how reception is done. What I am
also missing are possibilities to interface with it via -say- serial,
SPI, I2C, etc.

But it's an interesting design. I am interested to see the scematics and
software of this thing. (it is supposted to be open source hardware and
open source software).

Let's hope we will see a community of hams behind it to do usefull stuff
with it and expand it.
