Hi Stephen,

Re (2) I use a $15 Logitec USB headset and my laptops internal sound
card.  I had a laptop that booted into Linux and Windows which was
convenient but it's fan has died so I can't test Win32 ATM.

Yes one sound card using left and right was talked about some time ago
and may be useful.
