Hello Everyone,

I've successfully installed Richard Shaw's newest FreeDV RPMs for Centos6 (yay!)

Though the new bin binaries are more stable than the previous version, I'm seeing choppy input audio in "analog" mode that I didn't have with the older binaries. In the soundcard selection area, ALL of the "receive" and "transmit" devices show the API column as "ALSA". I would have assumed that the application would have some devices listed as "PortAudio" (and I understand that FreeDV does NOT support PulseAudio today). If I select direct hardware ALSA devices, things do receive but the audio is choppy as previously mentioned but as I play around with say the sampling rate (44100 <--> 48000, etc) to improve the choppiness, it seems the higher level PulseAudio system gets confused and things stop for ALL sound. At that point, only a reboot can fix (I'm unaware of a way to re-initialize the PulseAudio system w/o a reboot - would love to hear some hints if that's possible).

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this choppiness issue?

Ps. Mel Whitten, KØPFX, gave an excellent presentation on FreeDV at Pacificon 2014 which included some great troubleshooting steps but I cannot find that presentation posted on his website or other sites. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of that?

PPs. The http://freedv.org/tiki-index.php page is referring to FreeDV being at 0.96 when the newest RPMs I have are 0.97x. Someone might want to update that point.
