One thing to keep in mind about the rear data port on the back of some radios is that they expect 1v p-p or so, much higher than the 50mv out of the SM1000 rev. D mic port. I ran into this when trying to hook an SM1000 up to my FT-100 through the 6-pin mini-din data port on the back.
