Well it (freebeacon) worked perfectly, mode 700D.

With the Codec2 library, gitRevision 
832034f
4284

downloaded today. But not before it hung once. So I suspect
a USB sound card driver problem. Though this never shows up when
using the Codec2 library from February this year. (lib binarys compiled
before lightning destroyed the Pi SBC)

I played ve9qrp_700d_int1_fast_snr2dB.wav to freebeacon again and it
hung.

Frustrating as I want to deploy it on-air on a SBC.
