IMO
You wont attract too many FM people to 700D, LPCnet-C2 can win over
those , at least in terms of voice quality and robustness (compared to
DSTAR, and DMR is really more like CB) , given that LPCnet with a
relatively simple modem can be 12dB ahead of FM. Needs a frequency
hopping radio to provide good multipath mitigation.
The SSB people working the DX who are used to 3dB SNR like 700D, but I
think not care not much for LPCnet-C2
The rag chewer SSB ops will like 700D, and LPCnet-C2
At the end of the day- there is a certain enjoyment that humans have of
listening and digging out signals in the noise, a certain satisfaction.
Just like what CW is other digital modes.....
Error concealment in this space (machine learning / neural networks) has
a alot of capability to really improvement performance with missing
segments.
