Helmut, it's not only on HF, even towards microwave with AWGN channel SSB is 
unbeatable.

But intelligibility is greatly improved at marginal signals with Codec2, and 
there are other use cases too, like IP transit, the stuff Alan wants to work on 
and the M17 project is doing as well. This is a well beaten path for me, the 
difference being I took the tradeoff of transcoding to a single codec for 
transport.
