Thanks Jeroen, the idea of "subclassing" the logo is a good one!
Thinking about it, Tux is recognizable as a character/figure, without
the word "linux". So the image works without any associated text.

Hi,
Allow me to add my 2 cents...
One of the nice things I always liked about the Linux mascot/logo Tux
is the way the logo could be used for more than just being a static
image. If you were less creative you could just paste your sub-project
on its belly, but I have seen very creative usages of Tux as a mascot
(and not just a logo) in various poses, but all of them still screamed
'Linux'.
If it was up to me (and it is not) I would aim for a similar thing: A
recognizable logo and mascot that can be used in creative ways, yet
still clearly signals 'codec2' or 'freedv'. (Imagine the
nowherville-amateur-radio-codec2-enthousiasts club creating their own
derivative and it should still make sense)

Hi,
I was that guy and this is indeed the right place. I think your
original post was on the digital voice Google group. Was the Codec 2
mailing list really that hard to find? I just Googled the term and
it came straight up, plus it is mentioned on the Codec 2 web page.
Re logo - thank you for your offer. Rather that generating an image
immediately, can we please start with a discussion what the Codec 2
project is about, what we would like a log to show, where it will be
used? I've been through this process before in the corporate world,
part of the branding process. I imagine you know more this process
having designed a few logos.
Bruce, Mel, Walter - I would be interested in your thoughts, and
those of anyone else on the list who has thoughts about the
direction/image/purpose of Codec 2.
Here are some of the original blog posts for the project, that
capture some of the initial motivation:

And I guess you've found the codec 2 page:

A few weeks ago, I created a conversation in the Codec 2 Google
Groups. It was regarding the Codec 2 Logo. A guy there asked me to
please move the conversation to the "Codec 2 Mailing List." I
however, don't even know what that is so I am hoping I am doing this
right. Please tell me if I sent it to the right place, because I am
confused indeed.
