The first thing you need to ask yourself is why. Because "everyone else" is doing it is not really a good reason. XML is definitely not a panacea. Whose DTD will you use?

As far as the web (quoting Philip Greenspun):

XML would be a great Web/db tool if it had anything to do with the Web (i.e., a Netscape browser were able to understand it) or had any of the capabilities of a database (e.g., indexing, concurrency control, transactions).

XML is not a "technology", in any way comparable to a database management system, programming language, or Web server. XML is markup just like HTML. Whether or not it is useful depends on how many users out there on the Internet have software equipped to parse the markup.

I know about that many invoicing systems is implementing XML as a standard for importing
