I think we should; it'll make it a lot easier to show an error before it ends up hidden in logs. We need to define minimum tested versions of things so we can make debugging and supporting people's questions easier I think. I think one other useful little utility would be a 'freevobug' script which collects the basic information we need in a bug report.
