I think that apt-get enabled RPMs for Freevo offered to pick up just next to this little app (http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de/dist/rh9/mythtv/ hint hint ;-)) would be cool. That would make it easier for more people to try out both apps and find the one that works for them.

Would be good if we have something equivalent. Not sure if I have time
right now to figure out how to learn apt-get and create the metapackage
file :(. If you'd like to help with this it'd great!

I spoke too soon. Just took a look at the mythtv-suite spec file, it just defines many Requires: (which are the RPM dependencies). Ok. Not too difficult once the depedent packages are built :)

No, I agree... As I have understood using apt for RPM's you just build the RPM's as you would normally - and take care to tell what dependencies a package has. Then with apt you add an extra layer of info to the repository server with the apt genbasedir tool as described here http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/web-apt-rep.html

All this provides apt with info to do it's magic and fetch the dependent packages for your "top" package. So all the end user has to do is to update his /etc/apt/sources.list file with a pointer to the different apt repositories he needs packages from and run something like "apt-get update && apt-get install freevo" :-)
