The newer (pre3 at the least) versions of mplayer have a command
"osd_show_text" in the slave mode...
for example:
osd_show_text "New Mail Arrived!"
would show "New Mail Arrived!" in the top corner of the screen. I don't have any plans to use it for new mail :) but it might be nice to build a simple OSD into, for example, the mplayer TV plugins...
Or, for example, hitting 'guide' when playing a movie could show the IMDB title, or something like that. In any case, I just thought it might be useful, so it's a heads up for the creative folks on this list :)

It sounds interesting for the bookmark plugin in my opinion. there is no user feedback yet.
