Hi,

I was thinking about the future of Freevo some days ago. After some
more thoughts, here is a short list what came to my mind:

There are many discussions about new features of freevo on the
list/irc. IMHO some are very good ideas, some I don't need. Some are
easy, some are hard to do. A (not compelte) list is:

o better OSD (still in discussion)
o sqlite support (freevo and mmpython)
o support to store metadata to an item/file
o smb support (automount/handle as media)
o support for dvds on harddisc
o create fxd file on the fly for recorded show (xmltv info)
o plugin support for web- and recordserver

Smaller items that come to my mind (based on postings) are:

o removing dotfiles in item list
o changing the disc id code of mmpython/freevo

Still on our todo list are:

o live pause for tv
o manual record (with freevo, not the webserver)
o better bmovl support

And our all-time-favorites:

o docs (user guide, config guide, plugin writing guide, skin files)
o website update
o arts (icons/images/skins)

This list isn't complete I guess. To make a small look into the
future, it may be good to know what you (not only core developers,
also other people) are doing right now to avoid duplicate work.

o what are you doing?
o do you need help?
o do you have free time and want to do one item from the list above?

As for me, I will only develop at the freevo core. I think of my job
as the guy who fixes bugs in the core and adds some features a plugin
developer may need.

I'm on the project for 1.5 years now, nearly one year the maintainer
and I spent a lot of time into Freevo. The numbers of DVDs to watch
and books to read is growing for the last months (I have DVDs lying
around for half a year now, not watched once). I spent most of my free
time with Freevo, but this will change. I will slow down a little (not
stop). So every help is welcome to keep this little project running. I
may do some of the stuff above, but it will take some time.
