Well, I don't like the idea of making a behaviour change that the founder of the project disagrees with. A configurable option might be best.
IIRC, the main reason for the current behaviour was to make it quicker to navigate to items on the current page. Moving from one item to the next used to be a lot slower than now. So it might not be that important anymore, CHUP/CHDOWN might make more sense to scroll to the next page. But as someone else commented, old-time users probably won't be too happy if the behaviour changes on them without warning.
