Hi all, I was just playing around in the web interface and had some ideas and wondered what you all think about them:

1) TV guide: If you have a channel in your TV_CHANNELS and it doesn't exist in your XMLTV listings (or you don't have any listings) the entire row for a channel has "« This channel has no data loaded »" across it and you can't do anything to it. I propose something similar to the tv screen based guide plus a littie extra (that we could apply there too).

Instead of having a single colspan with the no data message we could create empty TvProgram objects with predetermined lengths (same as the timeslot blocks defaulting to 30 minutes) with a program title of "No data" or something. Clicking on one of these would bring up a modified program info box with the description set to something like "you do not have listing information for this program, click record to manually configure this for recording" or something. There would be no 'add to favorites' button and the 'record' link would send you to the manual record page with the start/stop times already set. If you want to record for more (or less) than the default timeslot (30 minutes) you only need to change the end time and optionally alter the program title and description which could default to something like "Channel X at hh:mm" and "manually recorded show".

Of course manualrecord.rpy would also need a few small tweaks to support this, like program properties to preset the option lists and / or text fields.

2) TV guide speed: Its too slow!! (loads slow) Yes, I want all the functionality AND speed. Can we do something about this? I think the speed is affected by the amount of data we pass back to the web browser. I have lots of channels and really notice bad load time, I only display 2 hours in by guide as well.

3) Genre support: I really like the genre support (genre.rpy and the genre options at the top of the guide) and think we could add onto it a bit. Maybe we can merge genre.rpy and search.rpy with advanced search options. Also most times when I use the genre I would like to see more than the current days worth and the guide loading slow makes me to not want to change the guide date. The genre option list could be an entry to an advanced search with prepopulated fields.

Also is there a good way to search for movies? Is all we have to go by the MPAA rating? It would be awesome to do a search for all movies, or all movies of a particular genre. We could do lots with an advanced search.

Other things that need fixing:

1) Prepopulate edit_favorites.rpy fields. When you edit an existing favorite it loses some of your previous properties.

2) Confirm on delete file. Yep, I got bit by this one once too. :)

Thats all for now! I was just doing some work and some things came to mind. I'd start doing some of this stuff now but I have to finish off favorites and manual record support in the tv interface (yes, help welcome!). :)
