I agree with Tanja that it is anoying to press a button twice when you only want one action. Splitting tv functionality into two sections: record/program and watch is more intuitive than the way it is now.
a main-menu-item for live TV, recording TV, images, movies,shutdown,news, weather (perhaps games) could be more than your TV can handle.
There will only be one TV main menu item (by default), with two there is too much clutter. I don't think it should be called "Watch TV" because watching TV is only a sub-item of that menu. In my running copy of Freevo the first item is simply "TV" and once in that menu there's a list of items about TV.
TV -> TV Guide -> Recorded Programs -> Scheduled Recordings -> View Favorites
Don't forget that new users often see things right.
Ok, I guess new users are used to turning on a TV (live TV!) then pressing a button to bring up an info area and/or a TV guide. If that's the case why not have Freevo jump right into live TV mode right after startup? Remember, Freevo is more than just watching TV, BUT people want to do different things than one another with it so we should make these sort of things possible.
How about we do something like this:
TV -> Watch TV -> TV Guide -> Recorded Programs -> Scheduled Recordings -> View Favorites
Watch TV would put you in live TV mode and you should still be able to bring the guide or info area up on top of it. From TV Guide you can of course select a channel to watch or a show to record.
Some of you still want Watch TV in the top level like this?
Watch TV -> (live tv mode)
TV -> TV Guide
-> Recorded Programs
-> Scheduled Recordings
-> View FavoritesIf people really want this (it won't be the default) then maybe we can add the ability to activate menu plugins to any given parent menu. That way we can make "Watch TV" into a plugin and some users can add it to the topmost menu.
Even then we could still do something crazy like telling Freevo to do a certain action on startup, this could be entering into a different default menu, or even jumping right into live TV.

Me too, it will definately be the default.

You can. It used to be CH+/CH- but might have changed... there may be a config item to revert the behavior.

I think my suggestions above could allow you do do this.

Yes, those things are planned and being worked on.
