things have been resolved, I am now working with freevo and pydirectfb
on my ATI Radeon 9600 ;-) Thanks for your support.
What version of imlib2 do you have? There was a bug with the python
and perl bindings with one version. And what distro do you use?

I was using SuSE 9.2 rpms with imlib2-1.1.1 because in order to save
time I was reusing as many libraries from SuSE as possible. Now I've
been downloading imlib2-1.2.1 directly and it's working. Next steps will
be to configure and test mplayer, df_xine and later linvdr.
From the wiki:
Warning: some people have observed problems with Imlib2 1.2.0
(such as errors loading JPEGs). However Imlib2 1.2.1 appears to
be stable.
