OK, windows is not a target platform for me, so they win. But they depend on X11 which in my opinion is a bad thing. GStreamer on the other hand is very cool. The more I know about mplayer, xine and gstreamer, I think gstreamer is the way to go, xine is a nice fallback and mplayer sucks. So what we need for 2.0 is a gstreamer integration into kaa.player. I had no time to look at it but we have to do it before I integrate kaa.canvas to have nice players we can draw on top. Speaking of this, I don't see how they are doing it, maybe they use opengl to do this job. Speaking of opengl: does it provide vsync? We will see how this turns out. I played with different normal boxes running linux (DVB). Some use X11, some use DirectFB (like the Dreambox). IMHO DirectFB works better on such small boxes, but I may be wrong. Yes, this fact sounds very cool. Maybe it is possible to buy such a box and put Freevo on it :) To summarize: it looks nice but I think they have a long way to go. Some parts could be copied into Freevo, some ideas like gstreamer are needed for Freevo to be as nice as this. But even with the big delay we have, I think (hope) Freevo 2.0 will be out before that with all the features they have. So someone here who knows gstreamer?
