Most of the effects are simple timer-based animation (movement, scaling,
etc.)  The selection bar itself is a MNG file (which is supported by
kaa.canvas).

There isn't much to look at yet.  It's still basically in early
development and not very useful.  I need to buckle down and get it done
but it's just been so hard to find the time.  It requires the kind of
consecutive time I haven't had lately.  Alas.  But we need it for
freevo2 so I'm feeling guilty blocking things. :)

Some areas of kaa.canvas were very badly designed, but the design went
down to its core.  The layout code (and reflow specifically) was
ridiculously slow.  Like O(n!) slow.  It was easier to start over and
just retain some of the good design aspects of kaa.canvas than it was to
try to fix it.
