We do it all over the place, not just there.

I realize it's a bit icky, but then it's a quite well understood
solution to cyclical imports.

I'm happy to rename async, but not to wait.  Because InProgress has a
wait method, so this is pretty dumb:

   signal.wait().wait()

I basically wanted something without underscores, but you know, I'd be
happy with inprogress().  A bit longer, but no underscores, and it's a
lot clearer what it does.
