Not sure I understand what you mean, but the basic idea is:

1. You enter the directory
2. kaa.beacon does a quick 'ls', no metadata?/thumbnails
3. Freevo shows the menu with the information it has
4. beacon scans the directory and creates thumbnails in the background
5. Freevo updates from time to time
