Interesting.  I don't think I like this approach.  It certainly won't 
work for me as I tend to either rip my own files, or remux the ones I 
find.  I'd prefer a custom tag you could add to mkv files that 
referenced a unique id for a given movie or tv episode.  If something 
like that became popular, it'd be great for Just Working.  Unfortunately 
it would require buy-in from web services like themoviedb and content 
creators (or perhaps I should say "content creators").

Possibly a combination of both hashes and a unique id you could add as a 
tag would provide the best of both worlds.  I think we really do need 
some sort of universal id.  imdb ids are probably the closest we have, 
but they're not guaranteed to be stable.
