OK found the culprit!
Checked the record_daemon.py source, it uses now=time.time(). The Python library reference tells me that time.time() provides the time in UTC! So this should not even work in any timezone other than UTC itself, however it is compared against something that is created by time.strptime() which maps the time back to UTC as well. However all of this breaks with DST.
So as long as you are consistent, nothing breaks right? Now in a project with may contributors, things are bound to break....

Checking my TV listing, it mentions the time in CET (not CEST). However, when I fix that it breaks the tv guide view in Freevo (and hence the rest of the chain).
