If you can find me a way to make a TNT2U work as "full-screen" in X, by all means tell me. The nvidia option OverScan or whatever it is (i'm at work now and dont have time to check) only works on GF4 or newer....

any ideas? I can't deal with the black bars...they piss me off to no end.

Thanks

One thing though: XV playback is acellerated, while many of the framebuffer drivers aren't. Personally I haven't been able to get the rivafb working with my nforce2/geforce4 MX IGP at all, so I had to use vesafb and during playback of an mpeg2 movie I had about 30% cpu utilization (XP1900+) using vesafb and 10-15% with the XV drivers, so the overhead of X may be worth if after all if you're trying to squeeze max performance.

INcidendally, does anyone know if it's at all possible to get an accelerated framebuffer, or at least one that supports 768x576, with a newer GeForce? I'm staying with X11 for the moment but it's always nice to find alternatives..

the question is, however, how to make a nvidia tnt2 ultra take up the entire TV screen.....any ideas?

That just figgin' rocks. Without the overhead of X I'm sure it runs even that much smoother.

I have only run Freevo in framebuffer mode (no X windows! In fact I don't
even know how to run freevo under X!) Just make sure you are booting into
framebuffer mode (I small tux pic will appear on the top of your screen
while linux boots when you are). I run 640x480x64k by setting vga=785 in my
lilo.conf
Then, in your freevo dir, edit the freevo.conf and set display = fbdev

It helped me tremendously to have already had the knowlede to run mplayer in
vesa & framebuffer mode too! Hope this helps!
