Since DVB cards provide a raw MPEG2 stream as far as I know, it
shouldn't require a program like tvtime; you could just play the
video/audio with mplayer /dev/dvb (or whatever the device is called)
and v4l2 should allow us to change channels.

Ok, it sounds like the way to go (certainly in the UK anyway)


I'm probably going to put something together when my PVR-250 card
shows up which may or may not work with a DVB card... I'm guessing
you've looked into linuxtv.org?

Yes, and some of the other DVB sites, there is a German based project (http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/index.htm) which is based around this driver, but it requires two separate cards to do live-tv pause, one of which should have be a "fully featured" (i.e. MPEG2 decoder on board) card.


The linuxtv site wasn't too clear on whether the V4L(2) API was supported by the driver, but the link in my earlier post seems to provide the answer.

Although it would seem not many people have gone down this route before.
