Well, it can in fact. I have an IR transmitter (Actisys IR-200L) and I can control my satellite receiver via my freevo box. But actually I've been doing all my recording the opposite way. My Expressvu receiver has a program guide / timer built in, and it has the ability to control my VCR. So I select the program I want to record via my Expressvu menus, tell it to record to the VCR, and at the appropriate time it IR-blasts record/stop signals, which an IR receiver connected to my computer receives and starts/stops mencoder. Although this arrangement works really well, the problem with it is that my Expressvu guide only goes a few hours ahead of time, so, for example, browsing and scheduling programs for tomorrow doesn't work. (If I got the Expressvu PVR I could get 48 hours of guide, but then I wouldn't need my computer to capture it either :)) > Until they integrate video in switching and IR blasting to control a cable > box/directtv box there is no use in having them in there to slow everything > down. The use in having it there is that I can't get the channels any other way. > I personally removed some channels that CAN be tuned by the freevo. I could probably cut the guide in half based on the channels I watch. Another problem I'm having is that the guide data from Zap2it isn't completely inaccurate for ExpressVu. It's never been right since I first checked out xmltv, back in April or May some time. Maybe I'll fire off an email and let them know.
