Hi Dirk!

Forsure asking is the best thing to do!
On the user hand it maybe a question in which country you are living if it
is legally to use the plugin!
At least for germany (which if I remember correctly is your home country)it
is absolutelly legal to use this plugin!
If apple do not like it they have to secure their Webpage.

Take a look at (unfortunally only in german)!

Subject: [Freevo-users] Legal issue for plugins

Hi,

someone wrote a Dilbert plugin some days ago and yesterday we got a
plugin to parse the apple.com trailer site. Both plugins are very
usefull, but should be include them into Freevo CVS.

Let's take the apple plugin as example. You can read at
http://www.apple.com/legal/default.html:

| Your Use of the Site
|
| You may not use any ?deep-link?, ?page-scrape?, ?robot?, ?spider? or
| other automatic device, program, algorithm or methodology, or any
| similar or equivalent manual process, to access, acquire, copy or
| monitor any portion of the Site or any Content, or in any way
| reproduce or circumvent the navigational structure or presentation
| of the Site or any Content, to obtain or attempt to obtain any
| materials, documents or information through any means not purposely
| made available through the Site. Apple reserves the right to bar any
| such activity.

The apple plugin violates these terms. What should we do. We had a
similar discussion over a year ago with the IMDB plugin. Someone (IIRC
Aubin) wrote that if we want others to respect our licence (GPL), we
should respect their licence, too. I agree with that. In the IMDB case
someone (don't rememeber who) wrote a mail to IMDB. We got the
permission if we add a copyright and maybe the IMDB logo. That's why
there is a <copyright> in the fxd file and we included imdb in the
splash screen.

So back to apple. We have three choices now:

1. Ignore the terms of use and include it (I don't like this at all)

2. Ask Apple for permission. We could agree to add a special copyright
notice in the menu info area or maybe even an ad in the view
   area. Someone needs to ask.

3. Don't include the plugin in cvs. Maybe add a link to external
   plugins.
