In Freevo CVS there are some changes that allow you to create arbitrary channels (as shown to you by Freevo only) based on a number of things like which v4l and audio device to use, which input on those devices (svideo/composite/tuner). I have a webcam as my channel 3, the rest are regular tv. If you are new to Freevo you might want to hold off on trying CVS.

That is bad. :) You should look for main-x-log (x is the uid, as root, 0), it will be in /tmp/freevo/ or /var/log/freevo/ if it exists (good to create that dir. That log should show you the command line that was run for mplayer, try it out in another shell.
