xv is covered by X11. If you look at the mplayer command used it will
include xv in the devices section of the mplayer devices list.

you should run freevo without a window manager or as 'freevo -fs'. We
stop the osd to run other programs so this is not an easy request to
satisfy. The best way to work around is to use something like freevo -fs
and not have a window manager at all. Or at the least use a stripped
down windowmanager like ratpoison with freevo.
