Howdy,

I know I've seen posts (somewhere) regarding this, but
I can't recall/find find'em.

Freevo, Haup 350 card, ivtv drivers, everything work perfectly
except that I get a small ugly looking little white ripple
at the very top of the picture.

Replying to me own mail ...

I've got the IVTV_OPTIONS set to:

IVTV_OPTIONS = {
   'input'         : 4,
#    'resolution'    : '720x576',
   'resolution'    : '640x480',
   'aspect'        : 2,
   'audio_bitmask' : 233,
   'bframes'       : 3,
   'bitrate_mode'  : 1,
#    'bitrate'       : 4000000,
   'bitrate'       : 6500000,
#    'bitrate_peak'  : 4000000,
   'bitrate_peak'  : 10000000,
   'dnr_mode'      : 0,
   'dnr_spatial'   : 0,
   'dnr_temporal'  : 0,
   'dnr_type'      : 0,
   'framerate'     : 0,
   'framespergop'  : 15,
   'gop_closure'   : 1,
   'pulldown'      : 0,
#    'stream_type'   : 10,
   'stream_type'   : 14,
}

Original values commented out.

Anyway together with the boring white ripple at the
top, I also have another weirdnes on the captured data.
The picture is kindof shifting up/down, just a tiny bit,
at a freq of about twice/sec. Odd.

i had that jumping picture once too... its because of the 480 vertical resolution. i dont think it is a good idea to resize from full pal (or whatever you get) to *anything* in aspect 4:3, because ivtv (and the mpeg chip itself) create interlaced mpeg streams and so somehow everything gets messed up with resize.

the white stuff on top of the screen _is_ in the tv signal. a normal television does not show it because of overscanning the picture on the screen. you should do the same when playing your captures. with mplayer this is pretty easy: just set the screensize to something bigger than the actual screensize and zoom.
and if you recode them for vcd or something just crop it...
