Guys,

I have since learned that xine is actually supposed to do this for me, so it 
appears that I need to make myself heard on the alsa mailing list. ;-)

Actually, with A-B test I could probably be spot on even with a so-so sound 
processor / amplifier. Not with low 128kbit mp3, but easily with 192 and up.

I thought the xmms in freevo where more or less dead? I actually would prefer 
to use xmms, but I never got it to work in freevo. Hmmm.. How would I 
configure xmms over xine for audio material?
