Since nobody answered... I'll try.

Your logs are in /var/log/freevo normally, and on the
screen, when you start Freevo from the command line.

Freevo will crash on non-Unicode (UTF-8) characters.
Plain latin characters are I believe a case of UTF-8,
so it doesn't crash on them. 

Your foreing language characters include both file
names and MP3 ID3 tags. To be Freevo-compliant, you
need to convert both to UTF-8. 

Earlier, I made a hack to Freevo 1.4.x to avoid
converting ID3 tags to UTF-8, but then I decided it's
worth just converting them. Apple's Ipod understand
UFT-8, I heard, to converting tags seemed to be a good
investment. 

More details on environment, fonts and conversion
tools were discussed just a few days ago.
