You write you use Hyper Threading? But mga_vid can't be compiled with
HT (or you have a version of mga_vid I don't have). So I guess the
mga_vid module is outdated.
I turned HT off in my BIOS, but use the same SMP kernel -- it still uses 30% of a 2.4GHz P4 to play a video on the G400.
Re-compiled with NO SMP, and re-compiled (and installed) mga_vid.o from MPlayer-1.0pre4 which is the mplayer installed on the system (through emerge).
....still 30% CPU on fbxine and mplayer.
Can you give me a reality check? shouldn't it be about 3% or less?
