Thank you for your repsonse, unfortunately, it didn't work. Any other
thoughts? I am relatively new to Linux, so it very well could be something
simple.

I have noticed this behaviour with a freevo started from init script
with no HOME directory set. Solution was to add export HOME=/root to the
start script.
