Hi Thorsten,

I am new to freevo and trying to get it to work with debian unstable in
combination with a matrox g550 with tv out.

Which output driver is the best in case the box is dedicated to freevo and no output to the first head is needed?

It's your lucky day, I installed freevo+dfbmga last week successfully. 8-)

You should use "dfbmga" as output driver for freevo. As you probably know, dfbmga is the Matrox driver within DirectFB, so you need DirectFB. The DirectFB from Debian testing is fine. freevo itself only uses SDL, so you need SDL with DirectFB support enabled. SDL from Debian testing/unstable does not have DirectFB support enabled, so you need to compile your own version of SDL.

I followed the instructions that somebody posted on freevo-users before:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg08996.html

Afterwards, you can use the "dfbmga" output driver for freevo and your error is gone.

Any hint is welcome! :)

Cheers,
- Thorsten

CU Michael.
