I did as you suggested, compiled libsdl1.2debian etc. Freevo started now
without an error but I still got no picture on the tv. The screen changed
from black to a light blue when I started freevo but I got no menu etc.

Now comes the strange part: I purged the freevo package and reinstalled it,
copied my local_config.py and lircrc back to the /etc/freevo directory.
Now it works. Magic...
