Just to elaborate a little on that issue, the problem is generally
caused by the DVD drive not reading as fast as it can.

AFAIK Mplayer and xine both handle this perfectly when stand alone from
what I remember when this problem affected me, however freevo didn't set
the drive parms at all.

It only plays for a few seconds and stops as it pauses to read from the
disc, at least that is what happened to me, and that fixed it up sweet.
