I've solved the directory problem.. seems that it cannot cope with 2 layers of directories. However now I just have a directory full of VOB files, rather than it presenting as one DVD

It also doesn't actually play the DVD, the window launches for mplayer and immediately closes, mplayer works fine stand alone on the command line from and xterm.

Does anyone know how I make a system with the display as shown in the picture linked below? and how to fix my mplayer woes?

The files not found occurs when I am inside VIDEO_TS, within the "watch a
video" section of freevo. The permissions are the same here as they are
when I move the VOB files to the top level directory, so I don't think it
is a permissions problem.

However when I get home this evening I will copy the raw files onto the
linux box to ensure that any network related problems are eliminated.

I am still confused as to the best way to play these archived dvd's and
how to have cover art displayed for each DVD? Is the intended freevo
behaviour to see a directory full of VOB's and play them like a dvd?

I am hoping for a setup that looks like this dvd screen shot:

which is from this article:

Any help in achieving this would be very welcome.

Stephen-
A little confused when you get files not found what direcotry are
you in? At it looks like you will have to navigate down at least 3
directories to get to the movie files. If you doing this and are still
having problems it may be becuase of a permission issue in the sub
folders. This will need to be checked from the linux box and the
windows box to be sure that first every int is shared as expected and
that the freevo user has the read write permissions it needs from the
linux side.

Hi all,

Probably the easiest thing to do is explain what I am trying to achieve,
then what I had done so far..

I am fed up with all the CD and DVD cases and the physical storage
required in my lounge. To this end I am putting together a media PC onto
which I intended to rip all my CD's as MP3's and all my DVD's as VOB's.
I want to be able to "rip" my DVD's onto a big hard disk, and then be
able to browse them on my freevo box, and watch the playback (movie
only).

I have installed Freevo on my machine and it all seems to be working
fine, I have a remote control, I can play MP3's quite happily.

However the Video section is causing me problems.

I currently have the video's mounted over a samba mount, as the media
machines does not have that big a hard disk. The folder of the DVD
appears in the right place when I got to "watch a video", but when I
select it the freevo interface simply says "no files found".

If I move all the VOB's into the top level directory (still samba
mounted), then they all appear in the list, and I can play them one at a
time, but what I really want is a directory that I can also put a DVD
cover imagine into, and then I can browse through all my DVD's and just
hit play once to watch it.

The directory structure is currently:
D:\Movies>dir /s
Volume in drive D is New Volume
 Volume Serial Number is 9C15-E1D1

 Directory of D:\Movies

22/03/2006 23:07 <DIR> .

Any help on how I can archive my DVD's and turn my media PC into a video
jukebox would be appreciated. I am currently using DVD Decrypter to do
the ripping on Windows. However I am willing to look at any solutions to
this problem. If there is other software I should be using, or a
completely different technique then please let me know!
