I dunno if xine has a mode where it can play frames as fast as it can,
basically equivalent to -benchmark.  Do you?  Without this ability it's
not really viable for thumbnailing.

evas can load eet only if you have that library installed. I've been
thinking about an mjpeg solution too, which mplayer can create directly.
Files would also be much smaller than png.

Are they 20 animated thumbnails?  (I don't have the video handy.)  At
any rate, however long it takes, the idea is that this is a background
task.
