I must say I think enlightenment needs massive improvement, the concept
is brilliant, don't get me wrong but it isn't a leading desktop. I put
enlightenment in the same category as I'd put symphony OS.

The development they do has far reaching implications however, take
imlib2 for instance. The team are absolutely brilliant at solving the
problems no one else is thinking of yet, however their methods are more
programmatic than usable ;P For instance I recently tried engage.
Although I could get it to 'function' function is a rather loose term
here. There seems to be no good GUI interface to it and it has nothing
in common with the freedesktop.org standard for launcher items. 

Maybe in five years or so, once they've started falling into line with
freedesktop.org then it'll be an actual desktop, rather than a
programmers play thing ;)
