I guess I spoke too soon.  I tested the file after I e-mailed and it did record, but it is very distorted.  Even though I set channel 46, it recorded channel 7, was green and distorted, and didn't have sound.  It seems like what happens when I set chanlist or wrong in other TV programs, but I know that I have it right (ntsc, us-cable-hrc).  If I manually change the channel to 46 in XawTV, the recording changes.  It records the correct channel because I've already changed it, but it's black and white with about a third of the screen covered in green artifacts.  There is also ghosting in the image.  Even though it's recording, I still think it would go on forever though since it doesn't register that the file size or time is increasing.

Yeah, I ran that test and it's definitely not working correctly.  The time and size never increase from 0 and each one has a duplicate frame.  A duplicate frame of what? Of nothing?  I should also say that it since the time never increases, the command just goes on forever, never reaching the 10 seconds of record time.  This is just a short chuck of it.  At the bottom, I made sure to include that error, "Error reading audio: Input/output error."
